Theatre Company's Sophomore Production Sure to Impress
Catered Art Auction with Live Jazz
 to Follow

Lunacy Stageworks brings together theatre and fine arts this June in the Sellwood Masonic Lodge with the production of Sight Unseen - a story about love, success and sell-out in the world of art. After the critical acclaim of Jack and Jill last fall, audiences are tuned to see what Lunacy will do with their Spring 2009 production.

Fall 2008, Lunacy Stageworks produced Jack and Jill by Jane Martin and earned the accolades of Portland's tough critics, who praised the show's "intimacy and eloquence" as "masterful" and "heart-shattering" (The Portland Mercury), and who "highly recommended" the production to their readership (Willamette Week).

Sight Unseen, crafted by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Donald Margulies, is a "rocky backward and forward journey through the career, values and loves of a now-famous painter. It's about the art scene, the loss of love, and the price of assimilation - both ethnic and intellectual - in an America where authenticity often has little to do with an artist's, or anyone's, rise to the top" (Amazon.com). True to the themes of the story, Lunacy's opening night Benefit Reception will be an Art Auction complete with fine wines, live jazz by Al-Shazzam, and an elegant collection of paintings, dioramas and photography from esteemed local artists to be offered to the highest bidder.

Directing the show is Laura Lundy Paine, artistic director of Virago Theatre Company (Alameda, CA). Paine, once a regular fixture in Portland's local theatre scene, is back for the first time in years to direct Lunacy's sophomore production.

Admissions for the Opening Night performance and reception (June 5th) are $25. For all other performances (June 6th - 27th), general admissions are $15, while admissions for students and those over 65 are only $12. Further discounts include Pay What You Will Thursdays and 2 For 1 Sunday Matinees. Reservations may be made online at www.lunacystageworks.org/productions, or by calling 971.275.3568.

"Lunacy Stageworks is about bold, truth-telling, devastatingly beautiful theatre. The stories we tell range from contemporary to ancient, dark to innocent, floor-stomping funny to heart-rending. At our core, Lunacy Stageworks is honored to present a form of diversion so human, it's been making people think, cry and laugh for as long as people have been around."
