Lunacy Stageworks is a theatre company in Portland. Plays are what we do.
We want to empower artists-in-hiding to pursue their passion in the theatrical world, by offering our community in Portland plays, educational workshops, open mics and events. We're determined to create a chance for people to discover their artistic identity through a shared (if maniacal) love of the stage.
We are about bold, truth-telling, devastatingly beautiful theater. The stories we tell range from contemporary to ancient, dark to innocent, floor-stomping funny to heart-rending. At our core, Lunacy Stageworks is honored to present a form of diversion so human, it's been making people think, cry, and laugh for as long as people have been around.

Do it for the Mic.
All it takes is a stage and a microphone. Just like that, you've got a venue - and the effect is immediate. Even if you've spent the last six months stuck behind a desk, or a counter, or whatever it is, for the next fifteen minutes you're free. Maybe you've never stood up in front of anyone before (except in that embarrassing speech class) - but this is different. It's an Open Mic. It's about you, and it's about being alive. If you've ever performed before, you know how these things can transform a person. We'd like you to get the chance to transform more often.
What do you do?
Sing. Dance. Juggle. Read a poem. Tell a story.
Come in costume. Come as you are.
Just come.
The point of Lunacy's Open Mic is to facilitate an intersection of talent, where the undiscovered genius of the everyday artist can shine across from the skill of local professionals. Whether you're a seasoned patron of Open Mics or a first-timer, we want you to discover the creative life that brims from this city. We want you to discover your own.
And while we're on the subject...
We anticipate the day we establish our fine arts center, The Mic, named in honor of Michael Lundy: grandfather, hooligan, and muse. Without his influence, Lunacy Stageworks may not have come to be. So, with all the gratitude and chagrin he deserves, we say it once more:
Do it for the Mic.
Giving goes two ways. On one hand, the future of any theatre company depends on its ability to build a following of people who can donate to the arts. However, it's no less important for us to be clear on what we offer that community in return.
We believe that theatre belongs to everyone. Art is part of our heritage as human beings, and theatre is arguably the oldest art we know. It's entertainment, it's fun, it's interesting. It's also holy, powerful and transforming. For these reasons, Lunacy Stageworks is dedicated to...
Theatre has the potential to bring a community together. It's the intersection of many artists uniting their skills for a common purpose. Even after the final touches are done, a production isn't real until there's an audience to see it, feel it, be affected by it.
In a world that asks us to isolate, theatre challenges us to engage.
That's where you come in.
CALL BOARD (n.) theatre The most important cork board you ever relied on.
A call board is where actors find out when rehearsal is happening, and crews learn when they're meeting to build the show. It's where people leave messages for each other, photos, cards. In a sense, a call board is the heart of a theatre, or at least, it's the heart of the action.
What is the Lunacy Call Board?
The Lunacy Stageworks Call Board is a place where you can find the artists, technicians, fellow companies, and commercial resources to do what you do best: produce theater.
We invite you to make this page your resource. Does your production require a program for sound cue playback? Lamps? A broken toilet? Search "Businesses" from the menu to the right. Are you looking for the right actor? A good stage manager? Search "Individuals."
Best of luck in your production.
