Helping zoos accomplish three important goals.
Safety, Safety, Safety.
We have been serving the Oregon Zoo for over 15 years, constructing new enclosures and maintaining existing ones.
In late 2001, Portland Fence Co. partnered with three other fencing companies to create United Fence Contractors. Now with eleven branches throughout the country, each company is able to diversify what they offer their clients, drawing from a richer pool of experience and manpower. Within this collaborative relationship, Portland Fence Co. specializes in project management and budget estimation/management. When Thompson & Thompson, member of United Fence Contractors, took on the Grizzly Bear exhibits for the San Francisco Zoo, they relied on Monty Sowle's expertise to help make it happen.
The Oregon Zoo continues to rely on Portland Fence Co. for the fine workmanship, according to Maintenance Lead Mark Perkins, but also for the knowledge that owner Monty Sowle brings to the table. His vast, formidable grasp of AZA requirements, paired with the abundance of personal attention he devotes to every project, are qualities you don't often find in a contractor.
Beyond the zoo, Portland Fence Co. also contracts airport, home land security, military, prison, sport, school and dam applications.
Where other contractors get daunted by the intensive technical challenges involved in zoo applications, Portland Fence Co. gets inspired: consistently taking on projects that other companies turn down.
Moreover, the people at Portland Fence Co. require no babysitting. They review the master plans, criteria and specifications. They know what to do; they come in and do it. It's that simple.
When it comes to public works, we all bear a responsibility to make sure it's done right. At Portland Fence Co, the project is as important to the contractor as it is to the zoo. The bottom line is safety: for the keepers, the patrons, and the animals. Each Portland Fence Co. enclosure meets AZA specifications down to the letter. Each piece of metal comes free of the knifelike flakes, chips and burrs that collect after galvanization. And beyond safety, enclosures are designed to blend into the landscape as much as possible, providing open views of the animal - not the fence.
From crowd-directing borders, to petting zoo enclosures, to custom-engineered rhino gates: Portland Fence Co. can build it.
